What can you expect to learn from a Biology course at Trinity? In addition to course-specific learning goals (see the Course Descriptions for more information), these are some things you can expect from courses at the 100-, 200-, 300-, and 400-levels.

 

100-level BIOL courses should include most of the following:

  • Basic background knowledge/vocabulary
  • Learning skills
  • Graphs/elementary statistics
  • Basic lab skills

 

200-level BIOL courses should include most of the following:

  • More specialized than 100 level courses
  • Application of concept-dependent insights
  • Analytical skills and problem solving
  • Exposure to primary literature
  • Labs could involve more statistical analysis and/or experimental design

 

300-level BIOL courses should include most of the following:

  • Integrate big ideas in biology across subdisciplines
  • Data Interpretation
  • Utilization of primary literature
  • Pre-requisites beyond intro sequence

 

400-level BIOL courses should include most of the following:

  • Examination and presentation of primary papers, interpretations of findings, contextualizing results
  • Analyzing and critiquing the logic of experiments
  • Giving clear and accessible oral presentations
  • Leading discussion of primary literature
  • Writing about science to the lay audience or non-specialist
  • Ethics in science and research
