Program Questions

You can expect to acquire core skills in programming and software development, data analytics, artificial intelligence, blockchain, cybersecurity, ethics, privacy and compliance led by professors from Trinity College. Business innovation fundamentals will be led by industry experts in the fields of accounting, marketing finance, operations, and strategy. You will also have sessions on design thinking, a human-centered process for creative problem solving that has been adopted by some of the leading brands such as Apple, Google, Proctor and Gamble, and Infosys. Finally, we will empower you to leverage your liberal arts background and articulate how to apply your new skills professionally through our career development sessions and alumni networking events.

Technology plays a significant role in our personal and professional lives, and we want to make sure you have the leadership and technical skills to thrive in the workplace whether it be digital or in person. Trinity Tech-Edge teaches you to embrace disruption and thrive in the virtual workplace. You will learn from leading experts from Infosys, a multinational information technology and consulting corporation, and acquire core skills in technology and business that will give you a competitive edge in the job and internship market.

The program will run from Monday, May 20 through Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Trinity Innovation Center located at 1 Constitution Plaza in Hartford CT. There will be no session on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. Sessions will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30AM – 4:30PM (ET) with breaks and a scheduled lunch time. In order to begin the sessions in a timely manner, students are expected to arrive at the Innovation Center by 8:15 AM (ET). Students are expected to be present for the entirety of the program to fully participate. Additionally, due to the nature of this program, participants need to have access to a laptop computer.

All sessions will take place at the Trinity Innovation Center at 1 Constitution Plaza in Hartford, CT from 8:30AM – 4:30PM. Instructors will rotate throughout the day to deliver lessons in a modular fashion, usually lasting about 1 hour and 20 minutes per session, with short breaks between modules. Every day has a dedicated lunch hour and on select days guest presenters, such a Trinity Alumni, have been invited to share about their career trajectory from the liberal arts to business or technology. Instructors may decide to assign homework. Evening networking or social events will be sprinkled throughout the program.

The instructors in Tech-Edge are a combination of Trinity Computer Science professors, and other faculty members, staff from the Career and Life Design Center, Trinity alum, and industry professionals. Program completion will be recognized with a digital badge that can be published on LinkedIn and/or listed in your resume.

 

Application Process

Tech-Edge is open to liberal arts undergraduate students and recent graduates up to two years out of college with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Our program is thoughtfully designed for students with little or no background in technology or business. If you are a student with a non-STEM background you will find the most benefit as we explore introductory topics in the emerging fields of technology and learn business fundamentals to solve real world challenges. Tech-Edge will prepare you for your next internship in the world of business and technology.

To be considered for the program, you must complete the Trinity Tech-Edge application, submit your resume, and an official transcript. We will accept an unofficial transcript of your most recent academic work with your application but will require an official transcript to be submitted prior to the start of the program on May 13th. For Trinity students and graduates, please provide your Trinity student ID number on your application as indicated and we will procure your official transcript from the Registrar’s Office.

Applicants who apply before February 16th will be notified of admission decisions early spring. To reserve your space in the program, a $250 non-refundable deposit is required. Applications may be considered on a rolling basis after the February 16th deadline, on a space available basis. Participants who apply prior to February 16th will receive priority access to housing and internships.

You will be able to indicate your interest in enrolling in CPSC-100 when you submit your Tech-Edge enrollment form and deposit.

Program Cost, Billing, and Scholarships

The cost of the program is $4,900. A $250 non-refundable deposit reserves your seat in the program and the balance is due in full by the start of the program on May 13th.

The Tech-Edge Program cost includes the program fee and materials, as well as housing, meals, transportation to and from the Trinity main campus to the Innovation Center, and some evening social events during the three weeks of the program from May 20 – June 7.

Housing and Transportation

Tech-Edge participants will need to apply for Trinity summer housing. On the application you should indicate Tech-Edge as the reason (or one of the reasons) you need summer housing. Tech-Edge will cover 3 weeks of summer housing costs for the duration of the program. If you need housing for a longer period of time, you are responsible for covering those housing costs.

Tech-Edge participants will reside on the main Trinity campus in select summer residence halls.

You can choose not to participate in Trinity summer housing; however, the Program cost is all inclusive and no deductions will be made for those who don’t want to partake in provided housing, meals, or transportation.

Transportation to and from the Innovation Center as well as related program-sponsored events will be provided by the college.

Tech-Edge Internships

Enrolled student resumes will be reviewed by the Trinity Career & Life Design Staff and presented to prospective employers. (It’s important to enroll early.)  Students will be required to meet with Career & Life Design Coaches prior to presentation with prospective employers and interviews.

Career and Life Design Center advisors will be available to help students prepare, please schedule your coaching appointment as soon as possible.

Tech-Edge administrators have worked with several companies to commit to hiring Tech-Edge students.  Students enrolled by April 1 are given priority access to interview for the internships. Students must interview with prospective employers.

Students will be required to meet with Career & Life Design Coaches prior to interview with prospective employers and interviews.

Most of the internships are paid.  This will be made clear in the interview process.

Housing is not included.  Enrolled students will know their internship several weeks in advance of the program start date in order to secure internship housing.  For example, Trinity students may apply for extended on-campus summer housing but will be responsible for any costs incurred.
