Civically Engaged Students
Trinity’s Office of Community Service and Civic Engagement is committed to creating future civic leaders through active student participation in the Greater Hartford area. Led by Joe Barber, a Trinity staff member since 1996 and director for 18 years, the office builds and sustains strong partnerships with the Hartford community. Recent collaborations have included the Southside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance (SINA) School Supply Drive and the Feeding 2020 initiative, which delivers meals to Hartford families. Project PACKS provides 25 backpacks of food each week to the Hands on Hartford Backpack Nutrition Program, which distributes 250 backpacks of food per week to children who may not have access to consistent meals over the weekends.
Families supported by the 2020 Thanksgiving Drive
Trinity’s Center for Hartford Engagement and Research helped students continue to support the Hartford community remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, with efforts such as recording storytime videos for schools and offering technical support to nonprofits.
A group of students, staff, and faculty members led the college’s new TrinVotes! initiative to increase student voter registration and election participation, especially among first-time voters.
Using spray paint purchased for the annual Trinity International Hip Hop Festival before the event was canceled due to COVID-19, Trinity students worked with local artists
